There's being upset over missing content, and then there's pretending to be upset over an extremely niche mode for diehards you weren't gonna use anyways. Nobody wants to spend 5-6 hours online for a strategy game. Nobody plays online multiplayer except diehard Civ fans. People, this is a single player game through and through. The biggest topic of interest for me with the Switch version post-launch will be whether 2K will continue to support it with additional DLC and expansions from the PC version. I'll miss my ability to use mods there as well, but I can live with it. Personally I play almost exclusively against the computer in either Civ V or VI on Steam anyway the biggest disappointment for me is that local multiplayer requires additional Switches and copies of the game (not likely for most players, I'll wager). This is precisely why 2K has approached the videos for the Switch version the way they have they know they're dealing with an entirely new audience here. of most of today's console gamers, who've been accustomed to constant barrages of stimuli and hair-trigger reflex-oriented mechanics. A typical match of Civ runs well into the HOURS, and sitting quietly.for increasingly longer periods.while your opponents take their turns (and hoping no one drops out of the game in the meantime) simply doesn't fit the M.O. PC gamers have long been accustomed to online games with turn-based gameplay, but consoles are an entirely different story. While I understand that some folks may be disappointed by the news of a lack of online play, please consider the logistics here.
